Amazing how quickly the year goes by. Over the next few months I’ll try to add updates from the 22 some-odd events that happened between Willow Creek 2010 and now… But in the meanwhile, Willow Creek 2011 is almost upon us and has moved to a new weekend! This subsequently removes the previous conflict for volunteers that couldn’t decide between helping on Willow Creek, the Race to Robie Creek or the Riggins Jet Boat Races. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, April 9 for Willow Creek 2011. RSVP to myself, K6LOR or Russ, N7SMA. More details to follow…

Willow Creek is upon us!

April 17, 2010 – 0700 to 1900

RSVP ASAP to N7SMA, WA7TJB or K6LOR!

Last year the weather started out as sunless, windy and below freezing. By the end of the day it was in the upper 70s – plan for the extremes!

Water, food, VHF hand held radio and AA clam shell are the bare necessities – great for the first time ham looking to help serve the community!

Boise Holiday Parade This Saturday!

Looking for as many helping hands as possible for the Boise Holiday Parade on Saturday, 11/28/09 (two days after Thanksgiving).

The event is in downtown Boise and is telecasted by KTVB Newschannel 7.

Last year we have quite a few volunteers that will be out of the area this year.

Positions involve direct traffic control and blocking the right of way. Traffic safety vests, cones and amber warning lights are very helpful. Comms will be on VHF 2m Simplex – a great event for the newly licensed Amateur.

Please if at all possible leave your pets at home due to the extreme traffic volume.

This is a fairly family-friendly parade – from your assigned intersection, your family can walk in and watch the parade.

At this point if you are available, please let me know ASAP. We’re trying to get a ballpark headcount to work with for the final parade planning meeting on Monday, 11/23.

Help Request – 11/7/09 Veteran’s Day Parade & Zeitgeist Half Marathon

We have both the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Boise and the Zeitgiest Half Marathon. Typically each even would take us to the limits of our available resources, however, with both events running at the same time, we need as many volunteers as possible. Boise Bike Week: Moonlight Ride – This Monday Night!

The first event of this upcoming week is Monday night!

This event starts and ends at Hyde Park Cycle Sports on 13th St and Eastman.
Start time is around 7:30 –

Communications will be on the 146.680 repeater with 146.58 simplex as a secondary

There are major intersections that will require clearing, along with possibility of a rolling road block and/or escort. Lots of variables due to the nature of the event, time of day, and the involvement of motor vehicles.

The Twilight Mardi Gras Ride kicks off the week’s riding events. This route has something for everyone – beautiful residences along Harrison and Warm Springs, the Greenbelt, Julia Davis Park, and a great ride up Capital Blvd. on our way back to Hyde Park. This leisurely ride is designed for all ages, abilities, and types of bicycles. Be sure to bring your helmet and wear your Mardi Gras best and lots of lights. The Mardi Gras Ride is a great way to get warmed up for the rest of the week’s riding events, meet other cyclists in the community, and enjoy a great evening out on your bicycle. Make sure and get there a little early to check out all of the great gear that Jim Powers has to offer to the cycling community at Hyde Park Cycle Sports. This will be a great opportunity to check out the latest in lighting technology and see how other commuters stay visible at night.
